Any supported formats can placed CD DVD formats cannot mixed presented me problems when I tried play an MP3 CD had album covers JPEG files CD JPEG pictures shown & I could access MP3 files Access different file types implemented in a future firmware update.
The formats supported
DVD: I tried a large selection DVD-R/RW recordings did find any media was compatible with. I tested a poor quality Bulkpaq had read errors towards outer edge disc played faultless whereas had stuttered in other players. Playing a disc a bad error caused freeze although I was able eject disc insert another I could play another disc without switching power button off then should corrected in future firmware. playback sound video quality excellent although I a Hi Res TV quality picture was noticeably better a lot less flicker other players I put down Progressive Scan. Playback can fast forward reverse 48x speed turbo speed compared other players. play button doubles a pause button in pause mode picture can stepped forward a frame a time step button. There a zoom up 400% screen positioning done navigation buttons. Audio output excellent output volume can controlled remote.
There digital optical coaxial output feeding digital audio amplifiers. One point niggles me menu play cannot selected number buttons play button one navigate required screen button then press enter button a normal menu just a press enter button sufficient start movie when movie starts on-screen play symbol remains in top right hand corner screen clear I press play button twice pause movie then restart done before pressing enter button clears starting movie. also apparent VCD movies auto run insertion play symbol remains screen until reset.
VCD: I tried VCD's CD-R/RW media playback was smooth fast forward/reverse limited 8x speed
SVCD: Playback was limited SVCD compliant movies play back MPEG 2 movies SVCD discs SVCD compliant even though movies played in other DVD players
MPEG-4: DivX playback I tried DivX MPEG-4 & MPEG-5 movie clips playback was impressive I was disappointed did support DivX 3.11 there a lot movies around format.
CD Audio: Playback CD audio discs CD CD-R/RW expected good
MP3: Playback MP3 discs good play albums individual folders display track ID tag
JPEG Photo Album: A disc JPEG images inserted player show a slide show screen configurable 5 secs upwards. A CD a total 12,000 jpg images inserted took 10 minutes read full disc before slide show could viewed. show could paused images zoomed up 400% panned navigation buttons images easily skipped back & forth chapter skip buttons. I tried a DVD had a mixture picture files a total 32,000 gave up appeared struggling read it. took 1/2 hour eject disc continually powering & off
Conclusion Video Quality produced player one best I seen coupled excellent sound quality DivX playback makes a desirable player. player Region 2 only drive apparently a standard Toshiba SD-M1612 SD-M1712 can easily flashed in a PC RPC1 (Region Free) There a few minor bugs in operating firmware I am sure KISS sort out future firmware upgrades. upgrades in form a CD iso image once burnt CD just inserted in drive firmware automatically updated. Problems encountered my tests When a CD DVD large quantities JPEG files (17,000) inserted takes a long time 15+ min read disc player appears locked up disc cannot accessed ejected until read. Powering on/off continually pressing reject button unit takes 15 min so eject disc. A DVD-R 32,000 jpeg took over 1/2 hour eject. KISS aware implement a fix in future firmware update. large jpeg files seem skipped in slideshow mode can accessed direct menu work different file types disc although web site says can view graphics whilst playing MP3 audio I was possible
DVD playback main menu cannot started play button only pressing enter button play start then play symbol displayed top right screen can only removed pressing play/pause button twice playback freezes due faulty media ejecting inserting any other media play until powered off back again problems I am sure sorted firmware updates serious detrimental pleasure unit gives excellent playback quality

Lots 1x cheap media readable in lots players burn 2x.
Also lots 2x non-certified makes unreliable disks.
Especially outer edge disks show data errors.
UPGRADING FIRMWARE Upgrades available here. firmware upgrade in zip file necessary files included. just unzip files a single folder Windows open folder run UPGRADE.BAT batch file flash drive. work when upgrading downgrading 1.90 below. DOWNGRADE 1.90 In most cases can done above in odd case hacked UPGDVD.EXE needed. Just select required firmware unzip a single folder add UPGDVDHACK.EXE folder run it. warned can take up 1 hour longer find key before flashes drive. avoid unnecessary problems whilst flashing drive suggested drive connected secondary IDE controller special IDE controller drivers installed. UPGRADE PROBLEMS problems reported when trying upgrade:
Q) I waited 45 minutes UPGDVDHACK.EXE find key flash my drive. started Key0: 0000h Key1: 0000h went key1's then Key0 changed 0001h key1 started go again start. nobody even mentioned key0 changing value I decided take plunge reboot.

Q) I get problem: CPU usages gets 100% when burning.
A) Put A03 in Ultra DMA mode process takes longer 15 minutes here suggestions people problems:
1) sure aren't any bus mastered drivers other ones Windows installs you. So means any Intel VIA bus master drivers might installed should uninstalled before flashing.
2) Hook drive up only device IDE channel using. (Probably totally necessary everyone least can eliminated a problem).
3) sure programs trying access DVD-r drive time. Thanks Flash review. |

Got my discs morning.
I'm happy say arrives damage free in a double DVD case. writing side looks just 'gen4 2x' Datasafe Riteks. There was glue blobs edges discs where two sections plastic glued together; nothing significant.
Disc One:
I had previously prepared a title 'Evolution' i burned disc 2x Stomp Recordnow MAX. disc took less thirty minutes burn.
Playback was tested in my PS2 first. I skipped chapters until i reached sometimes troublesome last chapter. I watched chapter carefully skipping. I'm happy report there problems.
Flawless playback was also achieved my standalone DVD players (see above models).
Disc Two: time I took an image a ready ripped DVD-R (for speed really) DVD decrypter in ISO read mode.
I burned image back disc DVD decrypter in ISO write mode 2x speed. Once again disc took less thirty minutes write playback was flawless three standalones PS2.

I say I am very impressed disks. Arrived morning packaged nicely in a double DVD case in mint condition – absolutely damage disk case itself. Looking disk very similar old datasafe gen3 disks dye very consistent underside strangely reassuring a real look quality disk.
I decided one disks burn an Xbox game wanted something fill game. I chose use Shenmue 2 a 4.33GB game stretch capacity disk far I could. burn game I Stomp Recordnow max v4.10 recognised disk immediately informed me burn 2X speed. game flew taking just under 28 minutes start finish IIRC Stomp reported problems. Hardware was a P4 (running @ 3Ghz) a Pioneer A04 via WindowsXP pro.
Testing game in my Xbox yielded equally impressive results. box fitted an eXecuter mod chip recognised disk first time booted flawlessly. Load times consistently fast playback was smooth unhindered. Every time I booted game since burning it worked without a single problems so I really cannot complain quality disk. second disk I a copy a DVD movie. I decided back up 51st state (brilliant film haven’t seen it) again filled disk capacity. hardware burn disk results – flawless playback performance skipping glitches. Worked my Sony 735 standalone DVD player my Proline crappy DVD player (this thing real troubles a lot disks!) also my Xbox so another big thumbs up me value money well price does turn out 70p around mark then certainly worth it. I think equal less datasafe classic disks IMO two disks par moment I certainly wouldn’t hesitate switch disk back my brief tests so yes – certainly worth cash. Gazanimal Burnt 1 film 4.2gig.
Burnt one PS2 game 3.4gig burned an A04.Firmware = 1.31 RPC1 2x4all (hacked firmware) Record Max Now burn with. On-the-fly copying a Lite-On 16x dvd-rom. Played Acoustic Solution 551 standalone dvd player & PS2.
Burnt 2x errors & seemed ok. Standalone player played film fine did PS2. PS2 game had a slight hiccup part intro rest played fine.
Over nice looking disk I ask why Datasafe won`t bring a new dvd-r onto market when they`ve already got most perfect disk in Datasafe/Datawrite Classic 2x. Even don`t release a new dvd-r then I hope don`t piss my beloved Datawrite`s. price lower Datawrite 2x then I might consider a bit they`ll good & very competitively priced draw me away my Datawrites`. TheUltimateTester dvd-r's came morning in a double sided dvd disc case reassured u quality. Discs in perfect condition. I already had a few things needed burning so i thought i push dvd-r's limit. I Nero burn did indicate could burn 2x i usually dont take risk quality better 1X.
I burnt 2 Ps2 backups 1x my pioneer 104. burnt in under 50 mins near full 4.5 gb. movies usually skip when played ps2 had problems. i told up market 70 odd pennies i think in comparison rest market id fairly priced. quality up best i definately buy compare gen3 released market. cuchulan Received my discs yesterday. Both in immaculate condition.

Disk 1 – Burned Monsters Inc (4500mb) Nero (version 5.9.9.9). sure disk supposed capable 2 speed writing my firmware only allowed 1x speed writing (big disappointment that). So disk took just under 1 hour burn.
Disk 2 – Burned a 007 multi disk (3600mb) Prassi (last version released). Again I could only write 1x speed so disk took 45 mins burn.
3. Playback
Dansai 852
Pioneer DVDr-104

Well can I say Bloody marvellous every single machine dvdr played flawlessly chapter pickup instant best I seen yet. My only down point initial seek time when dvdr introduced machine takes longer other dvdr.
4. Impression disk
Well most important far I'm concerned dvdr was perfectly flat. I had a great disk perfectly flat lead playback problems latter disk.
Also nice dark dye means lower quality lasers (console bottom end players) can pick up easier others. top disk good branded cluttered markings good. Also makes a good writing surface too.
5.
Well disk does seem up a step right direction far dye composition flatness uncluttered good top surface goes. My only problem only write 1x speed. may well I just need upgrade my firmware (which I'm reluctant do) may disk only 1x speed. it's latter a big mistake people want faster burning disks. does show an improvement above other disks I tried first disk I worked without any skipping my players.
In conclusion disk seems very good there a way get write 2x speed I'll definitely buying more.
Blade X2 Discs just arrived Well presented trial purposes.. coming in DVD Case.. (Nice Touch).
1) Sony DRU-500a/Pioneer DVD-Rom 106s/2200+AMD/Windows 2k SP3. 2) Recordnow software supplied drive V4.5

I upgraded firmware drive yet... until "needed"..
There a lot complaints concerning media Sony regarding compatability... i can say x2 media discs i backed up standard method.. played back faultlessly media.
omohat Discs arrived yesterday. Wasn't impressed packaging only had case opened slightly in transit matters worse bits supposed hold discs securely had broken. a result discs loose in case one had started come out. Luckily neither disc had any scratches writing surface.

Conclusions:

Upside: Good looking disc compatible my players. Fast skips chapters.
Downside: Only single speed media Datasafe/Datawrite classic still number one me had a 4 speed well different. price right I certainly consider buying. disc could well. thanks Datasafe forum letting me take part. Keep up good work.
swinbank received discs today well actually had go sorting office pay 97p post findings later today discs arrived in excellent condition was pleased see beautiful deep purple dye. We currently use datasafe ritek so hoped work equally well do. pioneer 104 1.31 firmware prassi v2.0. first disc burned a copy Road Kill movie 2x speed. played perfectly our Alba 113 Daewoo DVG6000D. Chapters skipped quickly quietly. second disc burned a copy Ty tasmanian tiger 2x speed also. plays perfectly our messiah chipped V5 ps2. Loads quickly quietly.
Overall a good disc the ritek disc currently produce. We look original riteks top better. Datasafe mess around ritek currently sale. Lets another Gen 3/classic changing dye saga. We put disc a level datasafe ritek swap unless price was significantly cheaper.
