Well today I started problems my main tower system: one my A05 drives miss last 2 minutes film although 'CD Speed' showed a good graph playback froze 2 minutes before end film. My first thoughts blame media so I tried different brands still got results. next A05 appeared burn burn looked good even discs recognised in any drive player: another faulty disc I thought. So I tried again different discs results drive. Pioneer DVR-106 I am reviewing was better there was still sticking in playback towards edge disc. It's easy blame media. Well I am supposed expert so I go advice should I deciding media could fault my next thought was drives gone down. idea 3 drives should go belly-up in day although possible seems very doubtful. So I then tried uninstalling reinstalling my DVD writing software - Stomp "Record Now Max". Link: Our friends disQworld kindly given us permission reproduce an independent review members new Datawrite 4x Red Yellow discs: SP4M: a lovely surprise morning only 2 x Datawrite Red 4 speed (batch code H04) 2 x Datawrite Yellow 4 speed (batch code starting 4XB) 4 discs arrived reasonably clean in plastic sleeves free imperfections scratches. (i always preferred DVD cases myself though ) My test rig an Athlon 1800+ 1gig RAM 120gig HD (pri master) WinXP SP1 ASPI 4.71a. Sony DRU-500A secondary master LiteOn 165 secondary slave. First impression Yellow 4x was good initial reaction Yellow 1x writable surface looking different predecessor overall build quality also similar in my opinion fairly average. Top surface differed slightly most Yellow 1x i seen changing lettering white black. new 4x disc a shinier finish 1x media looking a little matt in comparison. Started first Datawrite Red a 4.3 gig image a movie in STOMP Record Now Max 4.5. my Sony DRU-500 (f/w 2.0e) writing image HD. OMG disc took 15 minutes complete thats 4x my reckoning. Tested film in my Pioneer 454 Panasonic E50 Sony 336S Xbox PS2. worked falawlessly Fantastic. Second Disc i tried a Yellow 4x. Quite keen first Red disc burn @4x in went. Another movie image 4.3 gig total size was readied burned in STOMP. time another perfect burn played back flawlessly my players took 31 minutes complete (2x *sigh* great) 2nd disc color i decided copy an Xbox image test compatibility loading times. image burned flawlessly discs (albeit 4x H06 coded RED 2x 4XB coded YELLOW) Xbox played intro movie perfectly loading times sections was brisk good Yellow 1x RITEK G03/G04. There was difference in performance Yellow RED 4x discs. discs displayed a perfect curve 4x 9.2x when analysed in Nero CD Speed Test in my LiteOn 165. There mere seconds difference in read time. There also errors when tested in STOMP. Silence my critics think i'm a rabid RITEK fan just i want a disc writes advertised speed consistantly good quality. my criteria. 80p 4x media VERY exciting. was also nice receive 2 different discs 2 different batch codes compare. Once again thanks a lot Datasafe chance try out new(ish) media. I conclude in my experince only seem RED better disc because actually burned true 4x in my DRU-500. Shock horror Performance compatibility pretty much exactly types media working flawlessly. Foolish: Well I got in work find a suspecting brown envelope door mat. I opened see two 4x Datawrite Red two 4x Datawrite yellow. arrived in plastic sleeves under inspection had scratches imperfections. First impressions disks looked very colourful probably ok burning odd data file two mates maybe odd kiddie’s movie Monsters Inc keep fun I couldn’t really see a serious disk burning movies. So I task testing babies Datawrite Red 4 speed (batch code H04) Datawrite Yellow 4 speed (batch code 4XB) Advdinfo Red 00 42 00 00 01 40 C1 FD 9E D8 52 00 02 87 0E 13 .B...@....R..... 66 78 80 00 03 50 52 49 4E 43 4F 00 04 00 00 00 FX...PRINCO..... Firstly I burnt a 4.3 gig movie image a 4x Datawrite red latest DVD Decrypter. burnt 2x in a time 25 mins. inspection burn seemed even edge disk. I played back in my Pioneer DV-444 Sony DVP-PQ1 started intro without any delays. unusual noises apparent. I did tests including scan search proved well players. Playback was very smooth. Secondly another 4.3 gig image a 4x Datawrite yellow. Again burned in around 25 mins so there’s consistency there. Intros loaded quickly in players there unusual noises. Did various tests again putting disk limits there wasn’t obvious flaws. Playback was smooth. I unfortunately don’t own any xbox/ps2 I could only repeat test I did above remaining disks. I’m glad say tests proved same. Nero CD Speed 1.02 gave a steady curve types disk giving an average 2.5x. was quite concerning though was was an negative curve. I’m sure means maybe someone can shine a light that. So in conclusion I generally liked way disks performed my stand alone DVD players just under £1 a disk probably need investigation my 4 disk test. I am one tends go you’re safe know trust so me a few pennies justified safety RITEK. I look disks fun colourful don’t send out professionalism. I need a little convincing compatibility before I change my mind go plunge order a bulk order babies. said I may buy a batch Reds (personal choice (Stoke City Fan)) RITEK available. I hope review proves useful thank involved giving me opportunity carry out test. Peace Out Foolish Just add: I Tried disks work a Samsung DVD-709 a SCOTT 837 a SUPRA SD50Z1 DVD players played flawlessly. First impressions encouraging. Chefcop: Got my discs morning 2 x Datawrite Red 4 speed 2 x Datawrite Yellow 4 speed. discs arrived clean damage in plastic sleeves. My Hardware Athlon XP 2500+ 1 gb ram 60gig HD Pioneer 105 DVD burner Win XP prof. I tested red yellow discs burning a movie other two i copied contents my hard drive completed tasks flawlessly in approx 25 mins. First class good enough me order anyway. MINTYFRESH: Discs arrived morning quite well packaged in plastic sleeves damage marks recording surface disc. hardware was Athlon XP 2000+ 512Mb RAM 80Gb Barracuda IV HD Sony DRU-500A (1.0g firmware) I decided try out yellow discs first one a movie other an xbox game. burnt images HD approximately 4.3gb in size enusre most disc filled. images burnt DVD Decrypter. began writing 4x without a problem when reached 60% one 75% other failed a sense error. I've never experienced problem before any discs i've tried including princo 4x. Next was turn red discs images previously. wrote fully 4x without any problems (i've never had problems writing 4x older datawrite reds). recording surface discs smooth colour whereas older datawrite reds there often patchs discolouration. I tried movie in a a Pioneer 350 a Panasonic DVD Player ran film fine. Chapter skipping was quick there was breakup/freezing picture towards end. older datawrite reds picture often broke up very early in disc when burnt 4x problems when i selected 2x. So definitely an improvement older dye. disc also worked without any problems in an xbox fairly quick loading times. Overall i think red discs a positive improvement over older datawrite reds. I'm a bit disappointed yellows i was hoping even better reds my drive doesn't seem them.

» What's best DVD-R disc?

Link: This question I get asked a daily basis difficult give a direct answer. I test my discs burning a full DVD video 4.37gig (the maximum can fitted onto a DVD-R) then I play back in up 10 DVD players check speed initialization quick chapter skipping smooth picture search smooth playback - paying particular attention last 10 minutes area disc I find most susceptible sticking. I try find sort standard I can work comparing different discs "Nero CD Speed" (using file transfer test) gives a good visual indication readability disc. I discs read normal speed my drives I get a perfect graph majority good media so I had find another way making a comparison so I applied a firmware hack (thanks HIJACKER) my Toshiba M-1712 DVD-ROM reader enable me read discs 2 3 times normal speed. resultant graphs read speeds a lot erratic easily show up different variations in burn. I compiled a chart TOP DVD-R media I tested placing in order quality speed readability. I update I get new media test. Unfortunately above mentioned chart longer available my latest media tests can in my Battle Burners series. (NB. DVD-R manufacturers suppliers want media appear in series send me media samples I include in chart.) results just one graph particular brand out 10 I brand. I analyze my results select one represents average graph I find most brands follow a similar pattern so analysis usually straight-forward. Looking chart stands today can clearly see Pioneer media almost perfect (one day media this) taking 5 minutes read disc down chart Bulkpaq very irregular taking 7 minutes read disc. I still consider Bulkpaq a good value money disc disc can read easily playback without errors. discs lower end chart new factories being up only prototype samples evaluation. current time go full production until quality improves results show may get buy unscrupulous dealers supply Grey Imported material.
