Paramount will soon be offering consumers a $10 rebate on select Blu-ray titles when they upgrade from their previously owned DVD version of the same film.
The mail in offer will be included within Blu-ray cases of some Paramount and Dreamworks titles, including Transformers, The Godfather, Old School, Stardust, Sweeney Todd, Zodiac and possibly others.
To participate, you must purchase a qualified Blu-ray title by December 31st 2009 and postmark your submission by January 31st 2010. The submission must include the proof of purchase tabs from both the DVD and the Blu-ray, as well as the Blu-ray receipt.
While many consumers do not wish to repurchase their entire DVD movie library on a new format (Blu-ray), this promotion will entice many users to upgrade at least some of their titles. It certainly does look like a great promotion and I hope that the other studios will follow Paramount's lead. If the entire film industry offered these same incentives, demand for Blu-ray Discs would most certainly pick up.
Seeing as though the DVD receipt is not required for this promo, it also might be a good way to score a $10 Blu-ray rebate by picking up a used DVD on the cheap via ebay or a local video store.
