Microsoft announced today that will offer a lineup of arcade, puzzle and card games on its Xbox Live online service, targeted at casual video game players. Starting this fall, Xbox Live Arcade will offer a range of puzzle and board games and older arcade titles, with pricing roughly set at $10 apiece.
Players will need to have an existing subscription to the Xbox Live service to access the games. While Microsoft will dvelop some of the titles, third-party companies will also create games for Xbox Live Arcade including Atari, Namco, PopCap Games and WildTangent.
Microsoft hasn't announced how it plans to get the initial starter DVD to gamers yet beyond including it in future version of its Xbox Live Startter kit. Some of the first titles planned for the Xbox Live Arcade include PopCap's Bejeweled and Atari arcade classics like DigDug and Pole Position. The service will also offer parlor games like poker and billiards games.
